Bath County Memorial Library News & Updates

Want to Help Shape the Future of Your Library? We’re Looking for a Trustee.

What Does a Library Trustee Do?

Library trustees are the governing board of Bath County Memorial Library. As a trustee, you’ll help set the direction and priorities of the library — the kinds of decisions that shape what the library offers and how it serves the community for years to come.

Board members meet once a month and serve four-year terms. While the position is uncompensated, trustees are reimbursed for any expenses related to their board duties.

Who Should Apply?

You don’t need a specific background to be a great trustee — you just need to care about this community. The application asks about your professional experience, community involvement, and your vision for the library’s future.

A few eligibility requirements to know:

  • Must be a Bath County resident and registered voter
  • Must be able to attend monthly board meetings (four unexcused absences in a year constitutes automatic resignation)
  • Must not have a conflict of interest related to library purchases or staffing

How the Appointment Process Works

The board selects two qualified candidates and submits both names to the Kentucky Department for Libraries and Archives. From there, the State Librarian forwards recommendations to the Bath County Judge Executive, who — with Fiscal Court approval — makes the final appointment. The newly appointed trustee then takes the Oath of Office.

The position opens November 1st.

How to Apply

Applications are due by August 22nd.

Call the library at (606) 674-2531 and ask to speak with Director Michael Richter. He’s happy to answer questions and walk you through the process.
