Bath County Memorial Library
About Us
Rooted in History. Focused on the Future.
Supporting literacy, learning, and community connection across Bath County
The Bath County Memorial Library has been serving the community for generations. Founded in 1949 by the Owingsville Woman’s Club, the library opened its doors in January 1950 with a simple but powerful goal: to make books, learning, and opportunity accessible to all.
As the community grew, so did the library. In 1953, services expanded beyond the building through the addition of a bookmobile, bringing reading materials directly to residents across the county. A decade later, in 1963, the library found a permanent home in the historic Farmer’s Bank Building on Main Street—where it continues to serve as a welcoming space for learning and connection.
Today, the Bath County Memorial Library is much more than a place to borrow books. We offer a wide range of programs, events, and services for all ages, from early literacy and youth activities to creative programs, research tools, and lifelong learning opportunities. Whether you’re visiting in person or accessing resources online, the library is here to support curiosity, creativity, and growth.
Our mission is to strengthen the community through literacy and lifelong learning by providing equal access to information, ideas, and resources. We believe libraries are essential spaces for discovery, creativity, and empowerment—and we strive to be a place where everyone feels welcome.
As we continue to grow, our expanding digital collections and online resources help us connect with new generations of learners while honoring the library’s long-standing role as a trusted community resource. By bringing people, ideas, and information together, the Bath County Memorial Library is committed to serving the community today—and into the future.
